Frequently asked questions
Common questions about manual handling and people moving training in Ireland.
What is QQI Level 6 Manual Handling certification?
QQI Level 6 is a nationally recognized certification in Ireland for manual handling training. It ensures trainers and participants meet the highest standards for safe lifting and people handling techniques. Usafety's courses are QQI Level 6 certified, meaning your certification is recognized by employers and regulatory bodies across Ireland.
How long does manual handling training take?
Our standard manual handling training courses range from 3 to 6 hours depending on the type. Patient/People Handling Refresher courses take approximately 3 hours, while comprehensive initial training courses take up to 6 hours. We offer flexible scheduling including same-week availability.
Do you provide on-site manual handling training?
Yes, we provide on-site training at your premises anywhere in Ireland. Our instructors travel to your location with all necessary equipment. We also offer training at our dedicated facility in Ballybane Industrial Estate, Galway.
How often should manual handling training be renewed?
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) recommends refresher training every 2-3 years, or more frequently for high-risk roles. Many employers opt for annual refreshers to maintain best practices and ensure compliance.
What's the difference between manual handling and people handling training?
Manual handling covers safe lifting and moving of objects and loads. People handling (or patient handling) specifically covers techniques for safely moving and positioning people, particularly relevant for healthcare workers, care assistants, and nursing home staff. We offer both types of training.
